Modification to focuser tube

I stumbled across a video on Youtube the other day which showed a chap 'improving' his focuser smoothness by honing the flat part of the tube with an oilstone.

This got me to thinking & this evening I examined the flat on my Meade 5000 Series APO. What I noticed was that the wear marks are on the outside edges of the flat area only.

Is this a bad thing...? would honing the flat area to level it improve my focuser in any meaningful way?

Is it simple to do?
Is it worth doing?
Is this something that could go horribly wrong?

I assume that was a video by Dion on the Astronomy Shed website.

I did it to my focuser on my 8inch Newt except I used emery paper wrapped around a flat file, because I didn't have an oil stone. Did it make any difference, not really, seemed about the same. Maybe mine wasn't as bad as Dions.

Indeed, that was the one.

Seemed like a relatively simple job, guess one just needs to take care.

I was very careful when I did it, the last thing you want is to take too much off and the steel rod ends up slipping when pressed against the draw tube.
