M17 in 56 minutes.

Experimenting with a scope on loan. Looks promising.
It's been a while since I imaged M17.

Meade LX90 ACF F10 8" SCT, Canon 1100Dfs, Baader UV/IR cut filter, 112 x 30 seconds unguided. Yes I know. In my excitement to try it I didn't bother with guiding. Not bad for 2000mm unguided eh? Noisy, but looks good for a test. More time to fix noise. And guiding.

From Wiki "M17 The Omega Nebula is between 5,000 and 6,000 light-years from Earth and it spans some 15 light-years in diameter... It is considered one of the brightest and most massive star-forming regions of our galaxy."

Interesting comparing it to Steve's NIR version.

Thanks Lewis. Yes Steve's image is a fascinating comparison. It's amazing how we can now image something in so many different ways.

A nice result Kevin. I'm wondering whether longer subs would reveal more of the fainter nebulosity.

Sure would. Or more total time. I'm just on a quick rampage at the moment to get a feel for the scope.

Thanks Mike! I like the resolution of this scope. Doesn't go deep at F10 though.

That's a very good result for two hours and a DSLR on an eight inch scope. The colour and the resolution are excellent. More hours in the saddle would not disappoint.

Yes definitely needs a good 10 hours. F10 is very time hungry..
