SPX350 F18.2, ASI290, Baader RGB IR685.

Seeing was terrible as it has been throughout June, JStream sits ontop of Brisbane.

For a brief moment seeing with Saturn steadied so I could try my new ASI290 and its sensitivity was obvious. My Flea3 used full gain with Saturn whilst the ASI used only 64%. I imaged in 8bit, not sure what unity gain is yet with firecapture 2.6?

Focusing Saturn was a problem with seeing but I got a brief window for an rgb+ir. I include a gif of 2 IR685 15mins apart. There is some interesting detail moving near the pole, I will have to catch up with Saturn latest news.

I tried Mars but seeing made it difficult to focus and there was no detail at all to help focus; bad seeing would not let up. I did not think the storm was so bad but it is everywhere, only the pole was visible in blue. All that glorious up close detail spoilt. Hope it clears soon?

Regards, John.

You have done well. Seeing has been poor here in Brisbane for some time now. I haven't been able to get anything useful for a while.

John, nice that pretty well matches the view through my mak on Saturday night except there was a nice entourage of moons visible as well on my MK91, pity you didn’t capture them too.

As for mars on Saturday night it was visually featureless at 300-400X thanks to the dust storm so you didn’t miss much.

John,
Excellent results!
Resonance bands in the rings (Encke division, etc...) and the Crepe ring!!!!
(The ASI 290 seems to have unity gain at a setting of 110

I found out all about unity gain and at 8bit it is 351 but at 12bit(16bit) it is at 110. So my exposures where at unity gain as I imaged at 8bit.

It is great fun experimenting and learning with a new camera after 6 years of the Flea3, things have really changed with the new Sony CMOS.

You could try some 12bit SER images????
