The Vixen NA140SSf is a 4-element Petzval design with an f/5.7 focal ratio (f=800mm).

This optical design gives a wide, flat field that makes it an excellent wide field scope, with pin-point stars across the entire field. It would also make a good narrow-band imaging scope.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "calibrate my tracking, cameras etc.". Perhaps you could explain your intended usage?

Hi John. I have a telescope but its pretty big and heavy and setting it up is difficult for me at the moment. Its 26kg 12" RC. I am a beginner so am still learning lot. I want a spare scope that is lighter that I can set up more easily so I can practice tracking, camera use, sequence generating etc. But I want one that is a good scope and can be used in its own right as well and later maybe piggy back it with the new CDK light weight that I am building.

I have a Vixen eyepiece and I like the quality. Do you think this sounds like a good fit? Have you ever taken pics of DS through it?

I could fly up to Sydney and have a look in a week or so.

For those interested this is an amazing narrowband imaging scope..flat feild and light with good fov and I find it cools quick and holds focuss perfectly. Vixen have confirmed (via detailed analysis of spot diagrams etc) that it can be used with the HD Focal reducer x0.77 (not the flattener as its one is inbuilt) for a F ratio of F4.4 !! and will produce good stars on med sized chips (ASI183MM) of around 16mm diagonal or less.
