View Full Version here: : The shock and awe!

And just as messed up as the Gulf War, with as much shock and awe as Schwartzkopf promised us :)

The shock - a new record for me. Not only is this an incorporation of 8 hours of data over 2 separate nights, but the very fact I stayed with a target

The awe - yes, it is still full of awe :) Quite awe-ful. ;) With this 85mm FSQ, I think it is going to need another 4 hours....and it looks like tonight I can grab that again. :eyepop:

Moon was pretty darned full still, and Corona Australis is QUITE near the Moon, but I thought to hell with wise consensus, and plugged away at it in glorious unfiltered (except UV/IR) OSC RGB :) I had the new FSQ-85 large sensor flattener added this time, and it integrated perfectly with the 1.01% difference with the old data in PixInsight :P I also upped the dither to 3 pixels to help mitigate the 8300's fixed pattern noise, and it did work to good effect, but integrating it with the old data still shows the old data's obvious FPN. Ah well - good lesson on strong dithering with the noisy 8300.

Anyhoo, here it be.

Astrobin is having coughs and farts today, so bear with it.

And for the generally sedentary CBF types, a lossy loser JPEG

Just goes to show what you can take with Quality 85mm refractor you don't
need a large telescope to take images looks great Lewis.

Thanks Martin - might brighten it up a touch. This one had basically zot processing, apart from a 23% Soft Light overlay to tone down the sky a touch thanks to the Moon :)

Lewis I don't know why you keep complaining, if it were crap I would understand.
I personally would be very happy with that, yep, maybe a little brighter but a nice capture indeed. ;)
And a double night on the same thing, what more do you want

Leon

I think it's OK ... according to my eyes ;)

That means it is completely astigmatic, cloudy and blurry and devoid of colour. Cripes Col, thanks for letting me know.

Looking good Lewis!
Stars a bit red/muddy though?
Well done on your perseverance under the moon

All said in jest Lewis, :) It probably didn't read like that

I am mortally wounded Leon.

Just for that, here is the extra content for the day/night - a really REALLY quick M104....all of 10 minutes of it :) This was a focus check shot (and obviously I readjusted focus ).

The background, and especially the super-faint brown dust is
clearer now.

[Pedantic Mode ON]

Well, 'Shock and Awe' was part of the 2003 Iraq campaign under Rumsfeld/Powell - when all those Tomohawks were launched into Iraq (I was there for that one - an amazing, or truly awful, sight ... depending on which end you were at).

Whereas, Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf was in charge of the '90-91 Desert Shield/Desert Storm campaign (didn't quite make it to that one - my rotation got cancelled a few days before we were due to go on account of how quickly it was over!).

[Pedantic Mode OFF]

Your Corona Australis is not bad at all ... and definitely not as messed up (come on, you know there's another term we'd all like to use there) as the Middle East.

I was looking at this with my 4" last night (when you were photographing it) in a white/red zone and... Well... Your picture looks better than my view did

It looks good Lewis :)

I am surprised it’s not washed out more. I processed JUST the full moon shots and nearly same gamma as the new moon subs. Surprising really.

Now to eliminate the damned tilt again - different spot with the flattener lol.
