Hi All,
I've been doing some planet spotting with my 10" Dob. I've read that I could get better results by using colour filters. I'm a bit confused by all the options available and what they are used for.
What would be the 'goto' colours I should look out for as a beginner? As a starter, I'm looking at Saturn, Jupiter and hopefully Mars at some point.
Thanks.

I always found the color cast too distracting and never really found that I saw much more with them, though that was a long time ago and I haven't revisited them since. I bought the filters just to see, but I never use them. I much prefer to try and pull as much detail as possible without filters. I think its something to do with the brightness reduction as well as wanting my planets to look like they're supposed to when observing them. A green mars is just wrong!

Yeah, I wonder if I'd be put off by the colour cast as well.
Perhaps I'll get a cheapie one to play around and see if I like it or get decent results.
Cheers.

Yep, it sure does.
Thanks for that.

I agree with Markus - unnatural colours detract from the view, regardless of what small “alleged” additional details can be revealed. If brightness is an issue, a cheap adjustable polarizing filter to dim the image a bit is all I use - my colour filters are gathering dust.
