6 inch Refractor

i can get one of these yard cannons at a good price, i have a meade 8 inch SCT. so what do you think ? would i gain by having one or not..
Its a Celestron i think,but i am sure they are made by Synta like Skywatchers cheers Dennis.

I would stick to the SCT. The 2 inches will come in handy.
Plus you also have a smaller portable setup. Unless the refractor is an APO, then your going to get a blue halo around bright stars, and planets will be hard to see without filters due to this fact too.

Your on a good wicket, stick to it.

Unless you need to down size because of difficulty in moving the scope you would be disappointed with the loss of 2" of aperture.

Generally not a good idea unless you want a small, portable travel scope.

aperture rules, but if you want to swap your sct for a 8" dob...

What you would gain is the possibility of viewing wider fields, but I wouldnt expect a 6" achro to anything else better.

I think you are saying "as well as my current scope" not to replace it:shrug: ..if so why not:D . The colour may or may not annoy you so figure that out first:) if it does dont go there..if not why not..this comes from a fool with 5 scopes from 70mm to 300 mm reflectors and refractors..and have not even started on cassigrains yet:lol: :lol: :lol:

By the way I have a 150 ar celestron and I like it..the colour is managable for me and the Moon looks really good to my eye..an apo 150 can cost up to $15,000 so you are well paid if you can handle the colour to my mind.

You might see some benefit on planets from 6" of unobstructed aperture. But hey, it's another toy! Isn't that reason enough? :D
