I mean, what better Easter than 2 Spitfires in close formation?

Plus a Boomerang, Wirraway, Hudson, Catalina, P-40N, Harvard, Ryan STM, CT-4, Tiger Moth...

But seriously, the sight and sound of 2 Spitfires in VERY tight formation...goosebumps and weak knees. DEFINTELY going to the October Warbirds, so I can see the Hurricane and FW-190 too.

I took videos (yeah, OK, I am not a cinematographer) and about 9GB of photos, so will upload some soon.

Definitely worth the 2.5hr drive to Temora and sunburn...

Went to Scone last weekend to see the FW and the Spitfire. There was a piddling crosswind which kept them grounded. Didn't fly all day...

Not sure how the poms won the battle of Britain. I can imagine their fighter Aces now...

Les, the Brits and for the most part, Germans, did not use runways - they used all over grass airfields which meant there was no crosswind as you could line up anywhere and take off into wind and land into wind - basically a BIG round oval.

The Spitfire is a tricky aircraft on landing especially because of the narrow track undercarriage, and crosswind greatly exacerbates this. The German Me109 was even worse.

The FW190 doesn't suffer this problem but they have such a rare beast, why risk it? (the Aussie based one is a REAL FW190, not a reproduction, and only 2 genuine 190s are flying)

I was HOPING the Hurricane and FW would have made the pilgrimage like the Catalina did but alas not to be, and I will have to wait til October 12 and 13.

Temora should be rightfully proud too - a BEAUTIFUL town, extremely friendly towns folk. Thoroughly enjoyed by even the non-aviation nuts in my family (all 1 of them lol)

This time, a CAC Boomerang and a Curtiss P-40N.

My father has a tie to the P-40, having been one of the guys UNSUCCESSFUL in getting the PNG government to allow it's export (back in 1970) - it sat on it's back in the kunai grass since 1944 - easily spotted from the air. Thankfully, in 2002, the PNG government did allow it's export (for lots of export tax$$$) and now it is flying only 16 years later. Just glad the yanks didn't get it :lol:

The Boomerang is owned and flown by Matt Denning out of Caboolture. Watched this coming together over the years at Archerfield before being housed at Cabolture. There will soon be 3 Boomerangs flying, possibly 4.

Yep that would make my day seeing 2 Spitfires in 1 day.

My Dad's work mate told me stories when i was younger about the best site in the world was seeing a Spitfires following them home (even better than his wife) but he said don't tell her that :lol:, He was a radio op on a Lancaster.

Seriously, if yesterday wasn't enough, the HARS Convair 440 flew into Canberra. Just waiting for it's departure so I can get some good shots at the end of the runway (a 5 minute walk from home for me :lol:). I have to find out if it's staying for the Canberra Airport do on Sunday coming.

My old man was TAA flight crew, so he loved this image! Plus a Sepia version with modern CBR structures cropped out for that 50's feel :) (since RAAF Fairbairn is still 1950's!)
