Australian Sky & Telescope April 2018

Flicking through the April 2018 edition of Australian Sky & Telescope and I come across a photo of a mount (Takahashi NJP) I recognise from IIS. Seem our boy Mike Sidonio, as well as being an accomplished astrophotographer, is a writer. He has written a tribute article to his father. A real nice read.

Great article Mike,

It reminds me so much of my dear old Dad taking me to CAS meeting in the mid 70's. Those days the meetings were at the Earth Sciences building at the ANU.

I also remember us going to Astro Optical in Crows Nest with to pick up my Orange tube C8 and trying to fit that big green chest on the back seat of the Torana.

Ha yeah, thats cool Ric, glad it struck a cord :) I remember going to Earth Sciences for CAS meetings too but that was 1984/5/6 ..before they moved to Stromlo

I really enjoyed that article too. It probably made a lot of us think of our dads. It reminded me of showing him Jupiter for his first time after the Levy hits in 1995. I wasn't sure if he could see it or focus properly until he said "It's got holes in it!" Cheers Richard.

Thanks for the link Mike, was a good read. Condolences on your father passing (I know the pain, I lost my mum suddenly in June 2017). I'm pretty sure your father was very proud of you!
