Pixinsite tutorials.

Can anyone suggest a tutorial or utube vid for a beginer for pixinsite.
I have tried a few but thought to ask here.

These are a good start and Kayron makes these fairly easy to follow with example screenshots throughout. There is a worked example for DSLRs at the end of the list as well.

The book by Warren Keller "Inside PixInsight" is vry good as a companion to the videos.

I made up a cheat sheet from Harrys' tutorials, which I've expanded quite a bit, I can supply a copy if you would like one.
I've amassed a lot of other PI info, let me know if you would like some of it, I will pick out the most relevant and email to you.

I'm 68 and I managed to get a reasonable image, so stick with it, Pi does have a steep learing curve.

Attached is my first fully processed image it took me over a week to get it to this stage, I finished it last week, it exceeded my rather low expectations.

Where are all the RickS tutorials?

I bought PI when it first came out. Had a play, muttered a lot of 4 letter words, shelved it for a few years. Got back into it recently, and it KIND of makes sense (well, OK, not really, but you can bluff and BS your way through most of it - just keep pressing buttons).

It really has to be the most user UNFRIENDLY piece of software I have ever come across.

I found it easier to pick up than Photoshop ;) PS also has a bunch of complex tools, uses non-standard GUI design and provides no obvious cues on workflow. The difference is that we've been brainwashed into believing that's OK.

And Russ great effort there but let me tell you 68 is still young.
One of the reasons I am somewhat forcing myself to get back into astronomy is to keep my brain pushing.
My legs cause me to feel a bit sorry for myself so astronomy makes me move around and keep interested in staying alive.
I had hoped to get a decent Orion this trip but the clouds have other ideas.

I have started with the above mentioned lightvortexastronomy tutorials about a week ago. Very helpful especially for beginners, with images showing every button that needs to be clicked and every box that needs to be checked.

I am working on a cheat sheet, it is not finished but I can email it to you if you like.

I followed the tutorial Gary linked to (http://www.alexastro.com/Alex%20Home%20Page/Articles/Pixinsightandaloafofbread101.pdf) since I only shoot OSC. I had to ignore some of it since I don't shoot bias or darks (use MaxIM AutoDark subtraction instead), so can't use the batch preprocess method and have to use ImageIntegration instead.

Anyway, I took the VERY small amount of recent data I have on M78, threw out 3 duds, and that left me about 50 minutes of data. Not as happy with the integration as CCDStack gives me, so my plan in future is to Mean combine and debayer in CCDStack, then move that FITS to PI to finish it using the techniques in the tutorial.

Still, I think it brought out a start of good colour and contrast detail from this very meagre data sample (I don't even pretend to believe it is a good image, good colour nor good data).

Sitting here running a full set of 10 minute (-15°) darks and biases, with maybe some T-shirt flats later.... :). I only shoot 10 min subs, but might do a run of 5 min ones too just in case.
