Just wondering if anyone has fitted an autofocusser to a a United Optics 2.5 inch dual speed focusser? Any recommendations?
I also need to know how to remove the coarse side focusser knob (not on the 10:1 side) in order measure the diameter of the focus shaft. There are no screws on the knob but there are under the shaft housing (refer picture). I don't want to play around with it too much without knowing what i am doing!
Thanks !

Steven,
With the 10:1 already available, why put the drive on the slow shaft??
Better to belt drive the 10:1 knob for fine control.
It works for me on a few focusers......

I had a triplet with the same micro focuser and I fitted a SharpSky pro coupling direct to the pin. Did the job.

It comes with more than the focuser - dew control as well. From memory, with shipping from the UK it cost around $650 - $700 at the time I got mine.

From memory the controller was about $400.00 at the time I bought it and $140 per motor/coupler unit inc. brackets. I ended up buying one controller and four motors over time. I fitted my C11, Mewlon 210, FSQ and 9" Newt.

Marc. Just clarifying that the sharpsky autofocusser directly fits over the fine control knob of the united optics dual speed focuser? If so, sounds promising.. love kens belt idea too.

You'll have to measure the OD of the pin then get the coupler hole on the focuser side to match. Ask David to drill it for you when you buy it.

Steve,
I think Marc is saying that the 10:1 knob is removed from the small drive shaft and the new coupler attached to this small shaft (2mm diam?)

I have attached an image of the underside of my focuser. If i get a belt, can i confirm that it will be ok to fit a bracket underneath the focuser, attach an autofocusser, and secure the bracket using the centre grub screws? I'm not sure what will happen if i remove the screws.
cheers
Steve

Hmm......
Looks a bit more difficult.
