Peter Hannam reports today (http://www.smh.com.au/environment/weather/full-might-lowlying-coastal-areas-inundated-as-sun-moon-join-to-lift-tides-20180101-h0c90m.html), Jan 2 2018, on how a combination
of the "super Moon" and the Earth being at perihelion is causing a
larger range in high and low tides at the moment.

Also Gary. This is the 3rd straight Full Moon Supermoon on January 31, 2018! This full moon also will be a Total Lunar Eclipse, going into the early hours of Feb 1st

Ooh er... you’d think the sky was falling.

Yawn. Must be a slow day at Fairfax if the headline “news” is the weather...

But... any decent angler would be watching a tide chart, surely, not the SMH for fishing tips !

OK I'll admit 30 years ago in the days of a paper daily the SMH did have a fishing column... long gone.

Makes sense. I was fishing some time ago at the beach during a super moon, and the tide was very high. The beach virtually dissapeared. I think it was at december, so also close to perihelion.

The "lens" of the SMH is grossly distorted, though unlike most I still subscribe!

I'm not that desperate for news that I would subscribe to a paper
