Where is the best place to get a red light torch?
I'm trying to learn the different constellations but find it hard because a) the back light on my phone is WAY too bright, and b) it's impossible to read a star chart in the dark :P

Is it better to buy one or just do a diy with some red cellophane and a torch from in the cupboard?

Thanks! :2thumbs:

Hi Billi, don't I remember you living somewhere north of Perth a while ago?
I would buy a cheap head worn red/white torch so that your hands are free
to use the star chart.

Go to Bunnings, they sell a Varta campers headlight which has a red LED in the centre which is just the right luminance for working around a scope at a star party and in the backyard or observatory. It also has three white LEDs for general night use.

I use an old rear light from a bicycle it has a clip on the back and i just clip where I want. It's handy too so people out for a walk can see me at a distance and I look less like someone up to no good in the dark.

Or you can buy a cheapo led torch and give it a couple of coats of red nail varnish. The Head band with a red led is the best advice.
