Hi people's,

Just seeing if anyone has tried making a correct image 90 deg. finderscope out of the standard 7x50 Takahashi finder?

Or if this is even possible?
It's just a pain in the neck to use but is so Tak darn sharp it's a waste to not to try this mod, hopefully not too hard a project and costly.

I'm willing to be the crash test dummy and cut down the tube which I think will be required to achieve this. Any input to help would be much appreciated before I try.

Cheers

Might be easier to adapt a Nikon right angle viewer DR-5 to it Darren.

I looked at cutting the finder some time ago, but couldn't bring myself to do it.

Hi Wilso,
It can be done, but depends which model 7x50 you have. The newer has a narrower ep (<26 mm od when guard removed) and can be adapted as shown here https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/556420-information-on-the-takahashi-mewlon-210-and-mewlon-250/
Using this: https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/language/en/info/p5224_PFZSLOS-90--diagonal-for-your-Losmandy-Astrotrac-Polar-Finderscope.html
The older finder has an ep od ~31 mm and the Teleskop Express collar won’t fit it, but you could make your own.
I particularly like the idea of the following Kokusai Kohki collar that allows focusing of Tak polar scope, but it is too narrow for finder:

Cheers guys, thanks for the heads up on these products, I guess I'll have to do a bit more research before I try anything.

Thanks!

I once put the Tak objective into an old SW RA finder - didn't have to change anything. The Tak I used was the shorter FL version (my current one is longer FL).
