Hi guys,

I recently picked up an EQ3 mount (which had an 8 inch reflector on it :eyepop:).

Its just a manual mount but I'm going to attach a stepper motor to it to motorize the RA axis.

Are all EQ3 mounts made with the same gear ratios? or will they vary? (I haven't got the mount yet as its in shipping).

Just trying to work out my stepper speed so when the mount arrives I can bolt it on and get to using it :D. I will count the the ratio once mount arrives to confirm of course. But was just curious.

Hi Jasper

There's these things on the internet called search engines, Google, Yahoo etc. If you type "EQ3 worm gear ratio" into a search engine I'm sure you will find the answer.

Just buy the single or dual axis drive kit that is an optional extra
for that mount.

That's too much weight. The EQ3 can handle a 6".
You can find the ratio on the AstroEQ project page.

EQ3 (see this thread, is this the one you have? (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=45079&highlight=eq3)) has 144-tooth worm gear.
