Dear all, my first try ever. They are 20 light frames x 150 seconds, unguided, Cannon 50D unmodified + darks, flats, bias frames. Astronomik CLS filter. Looking forward to comments and suggestions.

What ISO setting did you use?

It's a great effort!

Sorry again. ISO 400. Fernando

Looks like your focus is a tad off, excellent polar alignment though! 150seconds without guiding with no trailing! Thats impressive

Thanks. Now that you said, I reviewed the image and it seems kind of out of focus. I do a manual focus, using BYEOS + a Bathinov mask. It seems perfect when I lock the focuser. I guess is gets kind of loose while tracking. Maybe I should re-focus after each 10 minutes? Makes sense?

I am really happy with Polemaster. As I take pictures from the same spot, I have marks on the ground for the tripod. However, before each session, I run Polemaster at least twice. Polemaster was a kind of "life saver" for me, as far a polar align is concerned.

For a first attempt I think it's a great effort Fernando..... Many of us have done worse on our 10th

Yes,very good first try indeed. The focus is definitely off. The focus will change
as the ambient temperature changes, and your scope expands or contracts.
It's worth checking your focus every half hour or so.
You actually do have star trailing, it would be a miracle if you didn't.
Judging by the amount of trailing, I would suggest halving your
exposure duration to 75-90 secs.
Locking the focus will frequently upset the focus, do you recheck the focus after locking it?
You don't need to use both BYEOS and a Bahtinov mask, either on it's own is fine; I
personally find the mask quick and easy.

Nice image Fernando. The next will be even better, given all that great advice. Good polar alignment and focus is a solid foundation.

I like it and I think you have done very well.

The length of subs may be the reason some could see it as out of focus , air movement even?

I have found after reaching focus the focus moves slightly after being locked so it is worthwhile testing focus after locking ... mention my experience your focuser may not do what mine does.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions!!! I will try to check focus every 20 - 30 minutes. Will also check focus after locking. Air movement seems possible. Was kind of wind that night; but not very intense, as I recall.

Dear all, as in my hometown in Brasil, the clouds (and the rain) are all over, I tried to process my Orion Nebulae picture again.

My friends and family thinks it is nicer...Well, they are friends and family anyway...

It seems kind of "heavy on red"!???

Hi Fernando, for my tastes, yes, a bit heavy on red but everyone processes to their own requirements. It is still a dang good first attempt on DSO photography.
There is a small amount of trailing as others have commented. The stars all all slightly elongated, egg shaped or in astro parlance 'eggy'.
Keep it up and show us more ..

Cheers

Hi Fernando.
Yes it looks heavy on the red and focus is off slightly.
The image has some nice detail in there.
You need to be more gentle on the editing.
I've had a little go to show you what can be brought out.
Sorry, if you don't want me to post an edited version of your photo, I will delete it if you like.
Just wanted to show you what's there.

Cheers.

Thank you all for your comments!!! It is unguided, 120 secs subs. It is kind of out of focus and stars are kind of eggshaped, mostly North-South, so to speak.

Thanks Andrew!!! Do not mind at all about your processing! It looks great. That is what I thought: to get it "less heavy red", as you processed it.
