I have just returned from Europe and while there I was most fortunate to able to visit the Museo Galileo in Florence.
It was awe inspiring looking at the equipment on display and trying to comprehend what was it was like to live during these times of the beginnings of the the understanding of the universe.

A very comprhensive tour of the Museum can be found on the following link.

Hmm. A dangerous time - given the churches attitude.

A yes, been there many years ago when it was a rather dark and gloomy place. The telescope collection was weird too - mostly “burning glasses” ie big magnifying lenses.

Were the finger and ring removed when he died still there ?

The Museum is a monument to mankind's quest for scientific knowledge in all its forms.
There is mention of the persecution of people questioning the ideologies of the times but also commemorates how these new ideas were supported by the gathering of empirical scientific evidence.

The workmanship in these 300 to 400 year old instruments is unbelievable
