Just playing with old stuff, as I am no longer producing.
20x 15secs ISO 1600.

Erm... the whole point of the jewel box is the colours of the stars in the foreground cluster. The challenge is getting the exposure right to capture the colours visual observers see, not the background stars.

Hi Wavytone, I've posted other wide field and cropped shorter exposure versions in the past that showed very few field stars. Just thought I'd try something different.

Hi Raymo, I think it's great. I like to see the other field stars forming interesting little shapes. They don't detract from the beauty of the jewel box - it's a bit like choosing the right frame for a picture - you don't want it to dominate but it should add a little something.

I like it, its a favourite object of mine and somewhat sentimental values too.

Thanks Sil. I think it looks a lot like the Gem Cluster,[ also known as The Pendant Cluster] which I think is equally beautiful. I have attached an image of the Gem for comparison.
Wavytone won't like it because it was also done with the purpose of showing many field stars. I originally did both to demonstrate to newbies that although
when viewed with the naked eye [or even with a small scope] these clusters seem to reside in sparse areas of the sky, in reality there are countless
stars there.

Well aware of that, but that's not why its called the Jewel Box.

It may not be one for the purists, but it's still a nicely composed image. I like the different approach you've taken here.

I like it also. Photo and visual are not always comparable.

Hi Ray. I'm good. Weather not so good so haven't done as much imaging as I would like. Love my observatory that I built. A pity we were not closer. I'd build one for you since I know how now.

So your'e not firing out of your bedroom window any more. I've enjoyed your recent output, good stuff.
As for an observatory, I really appreciate your generosity, but if you
built me an obs here, all the ferrous parts would be rusty in no time flat,
which is a large part of why I gave it all away, and sold everything except
for a pair of nokkies.
cheers raymo

Gave up on the bedroom window a year ago when the obs was finished. Similar problem here. Stuff rusts and what doesn't rust corrodes or rots lol.
