Aperture Fever in remission

As a newcomer I was obviously struck down immediately with aperture fever. Then the EP virus. Then the Ob issue. All got too much, wondering how I'm to afford the Ob slab, run power, etc. Leaning on the small scope plinth in my yard, realised that only 5 metres from the plinth is a perfectly good dry cement floored shed with a concrete ramp to the almost level grassed area, extension lead distance from the power. Shelving and all. Whats in the shed? The mower, to be shorty banished to a more suitable dirt floored shed next door with its cousins. So now its simply going to be a new permanent plinth/fork mount for the bigger scope, a trolley to move the OTA 10 metres, a level & landscaped gravelled viewing area and a small A/C in the shed for cooling down the OTA the afternoon before viewing. This can also be my warm room/computer area. The massive GEM to be restored can now be done in a more timely fashion over the coming years without the stress of "gotta get it done"!

I've had reverse aperture fever over the years. Started with a 10", then got a 16" thinking that bigger was better. Then downsized to a 12" and then a 4" (still got) and then an 8" which I was planning on staying with until the 10" popped up :P

I had a similiar reversal, went from a 10" dob to a 12" dob, then a 16" dob, before i came to my senses. Now that i am imaging, the largest i have is a 10" newt, which does not get used much, as i now prefer my Mak-Newt and my APOs.

My 4” takes up most of my visual as my seeing doesn’t support the need for large aperture most of the time. On nights of good seeing or if I want to do some galaxy hunting I have a 10” and a dark site :)

I insist on having a wide range:

20" Dob
8" Dob
4" Refractor
60mm Solar scope

Gotta cover lotsa bases!!

Never had aperture fever never will. Very content staying in the 100 to 120mm refractor land.
