One of those projects that never got completed ....but I rather liked how things were going until the clouds rolled in :cloudy:

To preserve the image scale and keep it web-friendly I've uploaded the frame at 50% resolution i.e. 2048 by 2048 ....pixel peep as much as you like :)

The data is "Unplugged". Pretty much as it came out of the telescope.

Remarkable what you can pick up in 15 minutes with good transparency.

Just darks, flats. Levels adjusted. No photons were deconvolved or harmed to make this image.

Fantastic resolution.

You wouldn't get that sort of resolution with a 4 inch refractor and tiny pixels

That worked! Superbly sharp detail.

The clear filter shows lots of stars and even the odd galaxy in the background. Much more interesting than in H-alpha.

So that’s why you wanted a 16” ;)
Brilliant Peter, looks like the seeing was quite good; probably what dragged the clouds over!

Thanks Guys....I’ll get the colour data at some stage, but as M&T pointed out, quite a few faint fuzzies (particularly bottom left) are in the frame, which surprised me when the data popped up on my monitor for the first time.
This was just 3x five minute exposures.
....begging the question what would pop up in the background with a much deeper exposure....
Anyway, I’m rambling, Glad to hear you liked it “au natural” :)

Sharp as a tack as it always is from you Peter. Hope you get the colour because that's going to be one great image of NGC 3132.

That little sucker is only 1 arc min across! :eyepop: That's what I call resolution!

Thanks Marcus... it's angular vastness probably lends itself more to my 4" F5.......... what was I thinking

Ta Steve... I'd imagine the h-alpha data would be tighter still...on the to-do list

Looks great Peter. A splendid example of a resolution advantage that larger aperture gives over a small 4" with tiny pixels

I like my rounder stars in the corners though :P

The FSQ106 is an iconic instrument. Just not the right tool for this job....so...you are using a 16803 chip and still have perfect edge stars? Impressive

Nah, can't afford one. But at least have round stars in the corners, even if my scope n CCD could only work as a guide scope for some setups

 Fair’nuff. I thought you might have tamed all manner of imaging beasties at 60mm off axis...and was keen to hear the gritty details.

So long as your system brings joy, that’s all that matters

LOL,

+1^

Damn fine image Peter, echoing all the above - you have certainly given a masterclass in resolution in your recent posts, well done!

very tidy image Peter - especially for no processing.

Good work Peter....you need more focal length:lol:

I was going to let this post die a natural death, rather than bump it to the top of the pops...again.....but.... thanks Louie...I think you are right...narrow-field rules OK! :D
