Would this motorised focuser fit my NG ED127? the site says its for ES models but from what I understand they are more or less the same OTA.
Link Here (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1070129-REG/jmi_telescopes_mfesed127_motofocus_ motor_gear_for.html) I suppose another thing I'd like to know is if its any good and can be used with eqmod for automatic focusing.

Hello Tony
I believe that you can only use the hand controller for that focuser. You need an ASCOM compatible controller to use within Eqmod or any other software package.
I use this one on a couple of my scopes http://sharpsky.net/ a little pricey but worth it IMHO

There's quite a few options here:

https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/index.php/cat/c207_Motorfocus.html

Go to the USB focus section at the bottom.

This might also be of use Tony, www.rigelsys.com (http://www.rigelsys.com/), they can customise to suit the focuser on the scope and don't charge extra to do so. All they need is a photo of the base of the focuser.

I got a quote for postage between $30 and $50 US. Hoping to order one of these automatic focusers in the next month or so.

What I'm thinking is that I can use shoestring FCUSB for it. i think its still a cheaper alternative than buying a usb compatible focuser outright. Although it'd be nice to have a temp sensor. I noticed while I was astrofest (temperature can drop very fast) that my focus would shift every 30 or so minutes due to the metal contraction.

You won't be able to autofocus with that. Just remote control from computer.

Tony, well depends upon what you want.
For visual its fine.
For astrophotography...best go for a stepper system.
