The galaxy was discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783 during one of her systematic comet searches.

Beautifully done! Lovely colours and detail.

Lovely! Great colour, deep, lots of background galaxies, clean smooth background.

The centre of 253 is somewhat posterised (due to smoothing and sharpening perhaps), with some resultant loss of detail, but the galactic fountain streaks are nicely visible.

Very well done!

Great details and colors. If you fix the core one for the poolroom. Well done. I'd be chuffed with one like that

Thanks Graeme!

Thanks M&T! Yeah I see that. Happened very early on in the processing with a masked stretch. Fixed. I have to be careful not to be too aggressive with the mask stretches as they can leave some odd looking artifacts. Something I don't see too well when processing at 2am. ;) Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks Marc! Don't have a pool room. :P

Thanks Rick!

Thanks Dunk and Russell! An old DSLR now too. The 1100D is getting on a bit.

Gee wiz, you'v done well with that set up Kev. Certainly making the HEQ5 Pro work well given the load. Thanks for sharing.

The core still looks a little posterised Kevin but overall a nice shot of this perennial favourite

Thanks Mike! Yeah it could be processed better. The mask stretching takes some mastering.

1100D is an old favourite...I’ve still got me modded/coldfingered franken-1100D...must give it some photons

I reckon it still keeps up with modern DSLR offerings. For the most part anyway.

Yeah I had a 6D for a while and it was more noticeable in daytime pics...astro it was more of a widefield wonder, but a mere incremental upgrade on the end of the scope, once I’d got over the wider FOV.
