Observing in Western Sydney

Hi IIS, new to this all.

I'm looking for a more convenient place to set up than going over the mountains. Living in Cabramatta and have been scoping out the Badgerys Creek area on the light pollution map. Last outing I had set up on Martin Road next to some excavation looking area but that was far from ideal.

Anyone aware of any parks or clearings that would be ideal for telescoping?

Also will being able to see DSO be too much to expect from an 8" dob in this area or would i need to head further out over the mountains?

Come to the Southern Highlands - just over one hours drive down the freeway from Cabramatta. The skies are much better than anywhere in the Sydney basin.

Hi Mitch I'm a stone throw away from you in Hinchinbrook next to the primary school, just back of cowpasture road M7 exit. Light pollution is pretty bad now. I just do NB from home. I went once on Elizabeth drive towards badgery's creek, on the right there's a short strip going to the tip (https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/33%C2%B052'18.4%22S+150%C2%B045'45. 1%22E/@-33.871768,150.7617478,333m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x 6b128b3bbfe05055:0x5017d681632ce80! 2sWallacia+NSW+2745!3b1!8m2!3d-33.865!4d150.64!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8 m2!3d-33.871768!4d150.7625141). It's pretty flat and a bit darker. Otherwise you have to go further towards Wallacia.

I will back The Mekong..... come down the Southern Highlands.
Straight down the freeway.
There is a little group in the Mittagong/Bowral/Moss Vale/Robertson area that has a nice 360 degree site.

Hi Mitch,
The Macarthur Astronomical Society has two sites, for member observations.

One at The Oaks, and the other in The Belanglo Forest.

We have a cabin with all the facilities, at The Forest

These are for "members only" BUT guests are encouraged to check out these sites, and hopefully join if you enjoy the experience.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions. Given clear skies ill make sure to get out west up the mountains and check out the southern highlands in the coming weekends. Tomorrow im looking at going out to Bents Basin south of Wallacia as it seems to only have .35 light radiations on the light pollution map.
