Each year, since 1993, the Astronomical Society of New South Wales has hosted the now famous South Pacific Star Party (SPSP), at its 107 acre (43 hectare) country property Wiruna near Ilford, NSW, between Lithgow and Mudgee, about 3 hours north-west of Sydney, through the Blue Mountains and into the NSW Central Tablelands.

The South Pacific Star Party provides amateurs with the chance to meet other amateur and professional astronomers, and observe under dark skies with superb seeing conditions, through all types and sizes of telescopes.

Guest speakers: We are thrilled to announce that our guest speakers will be:

· Dave Gault (www.kuriwaobservatory.com) on the Friday afternoon; and
· David Malin (https://www.davidmalin.com/) on the Saturday afternoon.

Registrations – Changes to procedures

There will be No On-site Registrations this year.

Registrations may close sooner than the deadline (7th May). Last year, the event was full the day before the cut-off date and registrations had to be closed at that point. We anticipate that the event may be fully booked even earlier this year.

There are currently over 180 registrations of 300 places available.

Hi Stefan, looking forward to catching up with you again this year.

Do you happen to know the reason for the limitation on numbers? The WSP in Florida has about one tenth the land size, and usually attracts 500 or so participants. I would have thought the more people who attend the SPSP the better.

Do you have to be a member of the astronomy club to purchase tickets?

Hi Allan,
numbers are limited as there is a limited amount of base infrastructure at Wiruna to support large numbers of visitors. The numbers have been limited for the comfort of attendees.
