This may be a long going post as it hasn't left Canada yet. But started the ground works for it. Dug the hole for the concrete pad for the pier. Here's a pic of it. Concrete to be poured, Tuesday.

Yes the pod will go on a deck, it'll be only about 200mm above the pad

Other than Grave Diggers and amateur astronomers, who get this excited about a hole in the dirt?😀

Keep us informed.

Sedimentologists and Archaeologists. It takes a hole in rock to excite a geologist.

The pad was poured on Tuesday afternoon, It ended up a little larger than I planned 1.3 cu^3 meters. Oh well, there it is now, pity the next owners of the house if they want to pull up!

Got the decking finished, just needs painting now. I hope it's all in the right place for the pod to fit over, if it isn't I'll have to put an extension on it!!! As you see it the total cost up to now is only $28 and that was for a bit of the flooring. All of the rest of the materials were laying around. The rest was made up of selling a 2.8 sliding door that I'd had taken out of the house that we didn't want any more. I forgot there was the cost of a slab of beer the pier.

Looks good Simon

Hope you got your offset right

But as the Pod can be easily moved I'm sure no issues for you.

I'm waiting till my Pod arrives before going ahead with any foundations :)

And yes we wait

When I was studying Archaeology at La Trobe Uni - I came home and kept telling my wife "I can dig awesome holes now, just like on the Castle!!"

Great hole by the way (although the archaeologist in me wants to straighten the sides a tad... :P )

I originally had decking but got sick of the mold and dirt so I blue boarded over the top and water proofed the tiled much easier to keep clean .
but I did like the look of the decking thats a hefty pier I think I used the same amount of concrete for mine nice and solid she ain't gona move thats for sure

Looks great, enjoy!!

You may already know this, but when you close the dome, it's best if you position the hinge points over a join between two of the wall sections. This is the strongest part of the wall. I've read on the skyshed pod Yahoo group of a couple of owners who reported that the walls were sagging. Wayne Parker gave the advice above.

Cheers Phil
