My current project is figuring out plate solving using SGP. I am using the PlateSolve 2 option within SGP and it all seems to work up to a point. After the scope slews it takes an image and attempts to solve it and I get a message "Runtime Error (6) Overflow" Not sure how to correct this. Any ideas anyone?

I'd post the sgp logfile on the sgp forum and ask for help there.

Thanks Peter, will try that!!

Ken from Main Sequence Software has got back to me and has suggested that I have not set the image scale in the camera parameters in the Control Panel which may b the issue. Fingers crossed!!

Hmmm! The other night i used the plate solving in SGP via Plate Solve 2 (from Plane Wave) very successfully. Last night not so much.
I happily run through the routine but when it attempted to slew to correct errors, it was not successful, the error simplyp ppstayed virtually where it was.
I am guessing this is a backlash issue as the program is only trying to move a couple of hundred pixels so question is, what is the best way to eliminate backlash in a AZEQ 6 so my pointing is more accurate?

Hi Malcolm,

I had the same occasional problem; when the mount needed to only move a few hundred pixels it would not move much at all because of backlash. It was not an issue when the needed correction was larger. Hypertuning my AZEQ6 solved this fairly well. Maybe try to tighten the gaps a bit as per AstroBaby's EQ6 strip down guide?

Since I got Mach1 I am each time impressed how it perfectly responds to such corrections in SGP - after initial PA and plate shoving it only needs one correction and gets the target centered consistently to within 1-3pixels from previous' night's session.

Are you using eqmod?

Yes I am. I think I read somewhere in the SGP instructions that SGP and EQMOD don't always play nice, but it was more in the meridian flip side of things. Anyway I will reread and have a play with the settings.

In eqmod make sure you have the sync behavior set as dialog based sync, not append on sync as this can cause the problem you describe.

Thanks Peter. Had a reread of the instructions and it appears that is the issue!!

Cheers
