Celestron has just announced a heavier payload version of the CGX mount, the CGX-L. The L has a higher capacity (75 lbs). No photos up on the website yet, but specs are there. Think of it as a CGX on steroids.

Interesting. So they've taken the tripod from the CGEM DX and bumped the payload by 25lb :D

The CGX is an interesting looking mount, if my lotto number comes up it might be a fun experiment!

I am looking forward to the reviews of the Planewave mount control software that Celestron is releasing in a couple of weeks for these CGX models.

It appears that Celestron has taken the page down. I will not speculate on why, but if you followed the original CGX thread on CN (before it was 'disappeared') you probably know some of the issues. The whole CGX, CGX-L launch should be a Uni marketing case study - on how not to do it.

I hope they sort this out soon, but it has probably hindered CGX sales now. It's too bad because it (they) is/are a good product that fits in a capacity niche in the market.

It really was a bit of a goof that this info was leaked but also important that it was for the community. Ideally it should have been announced from the outset so people knew a higher-payload version was coming but I don't think the CGX-L is too far along (hence no photos) and they didn't want to promise something at the beginning that was probably still a prototype at best, or possibly just a sketch on a napkin at that stage.

It is coming though, and perhaps because the regular CGX can reliably handle a C14 a business case was made to sell those in volume first as the CGX-L is only really necessary for even bigger rigs, perhaps even dual mounted setups which are far more specialised and people who desire these might not have sprung for a CGX anyway.

(Just thoughts, I have no special insight)
