Is our hobby old? Are most participants retired?
This survey may come up with some good statistics.

Thanks for the link Don.
Interesting.
However, the results (in Australia at least) will be skewed downwards in relation to participation due to the unusually bad run of weather conditions around New Moon almost every month this year.
Would be a huge increase for me if the question was asked for the previous year.

Survey done, will be interested in the stats if and when the participating numbers get to 1000 or so.

Done but fyi my age (67) was missing from the drop down menu so i made myself younger.

I believe more questions would be valuable: like
Annual spend
Number of and type of scopes,
Observatory
Systems used visually or imaging. Etc

Many imagers rely on software automation control programs for capture and may well be in the house, or asleep during capture runs, this could be explored too.
For visual astro it would be interesting yo see how visual impairment with age affects participation,

Astro brands supported,
Dark site trips, star parties, etc

Done.

Very interesting Don reading the statistics.

Some very obvious indicatations in the demographics of the type of people that are amateur astronomers.

Well done to whoever got to do visual astro for 365 days of the year.

In the words of Booger to Snotty. "MASTER".

Who attempts visual astronomy 365 days a year? Surely one of those nights was cloudy, raining and a full moon all at the same time.

So we're a bunch of old blokes who've been in the game less than 5 years who look through our scopes twice a month and take pics once a month.... That's about right!!!!

339 respondents as of today.

Don several of these results would be more interesting if binned in groups of 5 or 10 years, or a cumulative histogram plotted. Pie charts are not very informative with more than 7 values.
