Hi guys, im very very new to astronomy and I have tried messaging saxon and a bunch of telescope deales in australia and they have not bothered to reply to me. this may sound like a stupid question but i have a Saxon Velocity F1309 EQ2 Reflector Telescope w/R.A Motor Drive System and I have spent some long hours figuring out how the Equitorial mount works and stuff but i would like to move onto a computerised mount where i can polar align and track objects much better. so my question is would a Saxon GOTO EQ3 Mount w/ Stainless Steel Tripod go with my scope that i have?

any help would be appreciated haha.

Your scope will certainly fit on it, but the EQ2 and 3 are not really
man enough for the job. Budget level scopes are commonly under mounted
by the manufacturer or retailer to keep them down to an attractive price.
Having said that, your scope is quite long, and to be stable it needs an
EQ5 size mount. This would let you move up to a 6" scope further down the track, or much better still, an HEQ5 would let you move up to an 8".
These mounts are frequently found in the classifieds section at
attractive prices.

thanks raymo, so basically any saxon GOTO mount will fit my scope? and yeah that seems like the best option if I end up wanting to upgrade in the future.

The Saxon eq3 goto is about $1000 and Andrews communications and BINTEL have the HEQ5 pro for $1299, a small extra price for a big upgrade.

Saxon and Skywatcher are the same mounts, made by Synta.
Your scope will fit any of their Equatorial mounts, Go To, or otherwise.

And you can add Celestron as another brand owned by Synta.

It gets even murkier... I have a Skywatcher mount that came with a manual that has Celestron on the front.

A bit off topic, but the Seben 8-24mm zoom I have is the same as the
Celestron version, even down to the same black case with grey screw on cap.

:) One more thing , you may have to buy a Vixen dovetail to bolt to the rings allowing you to fit the scope to the EQ5 ( thats the mount I would grab ) because from memory the EQ2 mount ' Hard bolts ' to the tube rings .

Look at Andrews , Bintel or others for the Vixen dovetail , get one 200mm long and you are away  , small outlay in $'s but you need one .

One more thing , stick with the 130mm scope as these really do perform well , these deserve the EQ5 class mount .

Brian.
