Hi there all.

With the dodgy weather appearing to be everywhere, I thought I would have a go at some "deep" macro photography.

This is about 20 progressively focused images of a hornet.

Then all stitched together in PSCS6 and sharpened up with Astraimage. See all this astro stuff comes in handy here on Earth as well!

Thanks for looking and lots more to come!

Absolutely stunning. Congratulations.
A list of the equipment used would be very informative. I tried for similar images years ago but failed miserably. :(

Thanks Charles.
I used my Canon 650D and my 100mm macro lens.
Stopped down to about 3.8 and 1/10 second exposures.
Using the eos utility software shifted the focus each photo.
Then layered and seamlessly stitched in photoshop.
The bug was already dead. Held in place with a pair of tweezers secured in a drill press vice.

Very cool, Scotty! You don't even need a focus rail.

Thanks Rick.
Nope. Don't have to build anything! :D

Spectacular photograph Scott!

And you did not need to autoguide neither!

Cheers Suavi!
I dream of autoguiding an image right now! 😆

Horribly grrreat image!

Hmmmm.... I bet, clouds through a telescope and then meddled with in Photoshop .... should be very satisfying, too. Possibly even of scientific use.
