The Aurora Australis is routinely seen throughout Tasmania and Victoria, and - at times - as far north as Canberra. Last year, someone even photographed the aurora from Uluru (https://vimeo.com/122521005).

I have been forecasting displays of the Aurora Australis since 2012. If you would like to learn the skills needed for forecasting aurorae, I have just the workshop for you (http://www.auroraaustralis.space)!

This workshop will be held in Brighton (Melbourne) on Saturday, 27th August, from 9am to 5pm.
Cost: $120 per ticket.

The workshop will be run in four parts:

In a simple, easy-to-understand manner, you will learn the basic principles involved in aurora forecasting, including atomic theory, light, and magnetism.
We will examine solar imagery to track features that can cause aurora. The features include sunspots, flares, Coronal Mass Ejections, and Coronal Holes. Tracking these features allows forecasting of aurora conditions up to a fortnight in advance.
How to monitor and interpret near-Earth space weather conditions to predict the likelihood of an aurora being visible within the next hour. Data from ACE and DSCOVR spacecraft will be explained.
An explanation of how to monitor current auroral conditions, including sky cameras, how magnetometers work, what a k-index is, what the kP index is for, and its limitations.

Tickets can be purchased via my website (https://www.huntergeophysics.com/aurora-australis/).

I look forward to meeting some of you there!

Thanks to Suzy for allowing me to post this.
