Finished at last! This is the small version of my large Pano. The original is 13218 X 4761 pixels and takes up a file 78.6 Mb in size!!! It's stitched from 36 pictures in a 12 X 3 grid. There was a lot going on in the pic with Mars and Saturn making an appearance next to Antares in Scorpio. You can also find the small green Dot that is Comet 252P/Linear sailing away from the milky way to the upper left of the core.
Equipment and details: Sony A7S, Canon 17-40L @ 22mm F4, ISO 6400, 25 secs 36 frames (12 X 3), With manual Pano head. Microsoft ICE for stitching, Photoshop CC, Topaz filters (denoise & Clarity).

All the best

I really like what you've done there, keeping the horzon relatively flat despite the wide pano. Must have some clever software to register 36 pictures and to compensate for field rotation. How long did you spend between your first and last frame? Nice location, are they distant towns lighting up the cliuds or was it taken just after sunset?

Microsoft ICE matches up and registers the pics and then you can choose what projection you want from circular to Mercator or anywhere inbetween. It also allows for some deformation to keep things straight. Each frame is 25 seconds so with moving the head 30-35 seconds per pic. The town of Guilderton is right behind the lighthouse with about 1-2 km at most of separation. The pics were taken in the early morning from 0145 to 0345.

All the best

A lot of work but worth the effort. How do you find the Sony A7s compares with the 6D for nightscapes?
