well i have a small issue with my meade zero shift focuser. i forgot to remove the batteries - what an idiot.

So the price i paid for this is massive corrosion of the battery area. so much so that the wires corroded off. i had a bugger of a time looking for a replacement 8 battery unit for it, jaycar didn't have one that fitted so i found one on the net - still waiting for it but i was wondering if this is a common thing for these. i also note there is no on off switch so do i make one?

I would try a product called bakers soidering flux that you can get from a hardware store., just brush it on and leave for about 10 mins and either wipe off or rinse under hot water. that should take off all that battery residue, just a suggestion

Hi David,

I had a similar issue with my Skywatcher focus controller, this uses a 9V battery, I just got rid of it and installed a socket to plug a 9V power pack into it.
Once the scope is in focus I just unplug it.

Cheers
