Hi,

I think I have an issue with the RA Lock on my LX200 ACF and I don't think it's the typical issue where the lock simply needs tightening - let me explain.

When I first started in astronomy I only used my telescope in Alt-Az mode. I noticed that my RA lock used to have a nice smooth feel to it - you could actually feel the lock gradually tighten (sweet, no problems!).

Fast forward 2 years... since moving to astrophotography with my wedge, I've progressively noticed that my RA lock has diminished in it's ability to effectively hold the telescope and stop it from moving in RA.

So... I tightened the RA screw/knob, as per common instructions, and had to do it again... however it's now getting to the stage that the RA lock has little to no play - i.e. it's either on/off (similar to a leaking tap where you have to turn it really hard to stop the drip). I removed the RA knob & screw and the threads look fine, however I noticed there's no grease, the RA screw hole is bone dry.

Is this normal? Have any LX200 owners had similar RA lock problems, and if so how did you address the issue?

Cheers :)
Evan

Hi Wayne, thanks heaps for the links, particularly the latter one

I had hoped to avoid dismantling the base however with more research it appears likely that is where I may end up... :computer: .

Any thoughts on the lack of grease or the RA clutch mechanism?

Cheers, Evan
