Last night i observing Sirrius A and its B pup which took some time to see, i finally got it with the 12inch LX200 using a 26mm Nagler & 2x Powermate giving 235x magnification also viewed it with the 17mm Ethos & 2x Powermate giving a blurred view at 359x magnification, now i was ready for a real challenge with good seeing and transparency i was ready for the Trapezium Stars Alphabet Observing A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H1,H2,I
Scope: Meade 12inch LX200 (approx visual limiting magnitude of 15 & resolving power 0.38 arc seconds)
Eyepieces: 41mm Panoptic (74x), 26mm Nagler (117x) and 17mm Ethos (179x)
A,B,C,D: magnitude 6.7-7.5 variable, 8-8.5 eclipsing binary, 5.1, 6.7 - very easy to see all stars using 41mm Panoptic, 26mm Nagler and 17mm Ethos
E,F: magnitude 10.3,10.2 - very easy to see both stars using 41mm Panoptic and 26mm Nagler and 17mm Ethos
G: magnitude 14.5 - only able to see using averted vision in 26mm Nagler and 17mm Ethos it seems to keep drifting in and out of view depending on moments of seeing.
H1,H2: magnitude 14.5,15.5 - H1 only able to see using averted vision in 26mm Nagler and 17mm Ethos it seems more visable than G as moments of seeing change, H2 is extremely difficult to see even with averted vision and moments of very good seeing, after several attempts and over 30 minutes just trying to view the H2 star i think i may have got it just once but not able to see for a second time so may need more effort on this one to confirm 100%.
I: magnitude 15 - only able to just barely see using averted vision in 26mm Nagler and 17mm Ethos it seems to keep drifting in and out of view depending on moments of seeing. The brightness of stars A,B,C,D seem to also effect my ability to see the I star clearly.
