I'm going to build my first imaging set since I'm moving to a place with good sky condition.

The main scope is TAK FSQ 106EDX4, and I ordered a fc-60cb as guid scope, just in case if I ever going visual with the main scope. pluse all imaging seeting, it should be less than 15 kg.

My question is, is the payload of AZ-EQ5 OR 6 exactly the same as skywatcher said(15kg/20 kg)?

Consider the head of azeq5 weights 7.7 kg only(16kg for azeq6). This mount will be very comfortable to moving around. I assuming the building quality, material, and accuracy is the same as az-eq6(just a light version)?

If anyone had experience with the az-eq5 or az-eq6, Could you please share your experience with the mount, the pro/con, major/minor issue, and how you think to fix the problem(eg use belt to reduce the noise on eq5). thanks ;)

Go with the EQ6 version, it gives you more 'payload capacity'. If you want to image you need to keep the weight low, the EQ5 would be stressed at that weight.

Hi Leon,

I have both HEQ5 and AZEQ6; AZEQ6 is sturdier and seems to have more horsepower too. Not a massive difference is tracking accuracy though, given you stay within both mounts capacity.

Check page 19 in both manuals for more detailed info:

AZEQ5: http://ca.skywatcher.com/upfiles/en_download_caty01440636363.pdf
AZEQ6: http://ca.skywatcher.com/upfiles/en_download_caty01353096919.pdf

Hope it helps a bit.

Regards
Suavi

Thanks, that's what I was worry about, if the 5 actually payload is lower than 15, it may cause trouble.

Thanks Suavi, it seems I may have to go with azeq6, which is safer for my optic, camera etc. I think it's very less likely that my payload will excess 15kg, but maybe close to 15kg.

Haha that's what you say now. Soon you maybe testing the limits of the AZEQ6 when you upgrade scopes to take advantage of the capacity.
