Hello I have been buying in Astronomy books from The States through a bookshop these little Chips have been stuck one in each book stuck in The Pages - I have six books and six chips -- Tony

They're RFID security stickers, to stop books being stolen from the shop.

Surveillance chips.
They deploy a camera when you first open them and have built in microphones.
Try to keep chatter down to a minimum when you are near the book and for goodness sake, find the camera.

Its probably an RFID tag used more for identifying that product for identification as part of the checkout process
Think of it as a wireless barcode, but its more specific - it usually it identifies that particular book as opposed to just its title.
Its just a unique ID number, the computer stores the details of the book and associates that to the unique ID.
