EQ3 / EQ5 Synscan Upgrade Kit with EQ5

I have with the help of my good friends Peter and Andrew converted a EQ5 to alt/az mount but the goto upgrade kit i have seems not to allow me to choose alt/az instead. I think that this is due to the MC firmware perhaps not supporting alt/az mode. Is there anyway to get arouns this or does a new firmware exist to allow this? Maybe cab we use the mc firmware from the az-eq5?

Hi Fahim,

I've asked the Synscan developers if they know a way to do this.
I'll let you know what they say.

Thanks Mike really appreciate that. From what I have read in the manual the handset when connected to an az-eq5 or az-eq6 gives you an option of "operating modes". If we could get the same on the eq5/eq3 board or have a way in the handset to override what is detected from MC somehow would be great.

Hi Fahim,

They say the only way to do this is to flash the Synscan AZ 3.08 firmware.

Note: This firmware version is only compatible with the V3 hand controller.
It is available for download from www.skywatcher.com (http://www.skywatcher.com).

Thanks Mike that's good news. I am sure by HC is v3 so will give it a go.
I am hopping to possibly transfer the goto kit to my Skytee2 Mount which as I understand it uses the same Worm/Gear as the Eq5. But I have some issues with the Skytee2 and need to replace some parts, but it was not sold in Australia so not sure how to get them.
