So, apparently the Taurids are almost upon us and although it looks like they will be in the main behind the treeline for us :/ this might be a good opportunity to get the wife to see her first shooting star ;)

Presumably people will post photos or accounts of their observations on IIS - please do if they start turning up as the timing seems a bit imprecise.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve
We had an observing night near Mareeba FNQ last Friday night. Being aware of the Northern Taurids we were on the lookout and saw several of them. This was despite the radiant bring low on the Eastern Horizon
Cheers Ian

I've seen quite a few meteors over recent weeks from here in Brisbane. I was out from 11pm to 3am this morning and saw 5 meteors during that time on those occasions when I was just looking up. One was a standout that left a trail as it streaked from my west to east. Had an even better one a few weeks ago that left a trail of burning bits as it broke up and it's head was the size and brightness of Sirius

Wow - that's impressive - hopefully we'll get some clear skies over the next few days and all get a look ;)

I saw a very bright fireball through clouds no less tonight. It flashed twice then stopped. It was the brightest meteorite I have ever seen.

Greg.
