Hey guys.

Recently I found a thread here which shows there is an approximate 5kg weight inside the mirror end of the Meade 12" LX200 OTA. I've decided to open mine up and remove the counter weight to lighten the OTA and make it mountable on my AZ-EQ6.

I've had a look around the interweb/YouTube to find instructions on how to open the OTA but without much success.

Can anyone here direct me to a thread/link/YouTube tutorial on how to open up the OTA so I don't go in blind? Maybe someone has already done this and can give me tips and hints to avoid pitfalls.

Here's one article showing removal of the weight from a Meade 7" Mak: http://www.astromart.com/articles/article.asp?article_id=658

There should be a few articles around about general disassembly of a SCT.

Thx Tony. Had a read through that. Not for the faint hearted! Would definitely like to see something specifically for the SCT's before starting.
