Hello all,

I have a 10" dob and some time ago bought an Argo Navis for it.
Wildcard Innovations have done the work on the trunnion.

I am not very handy and the telescope + Argo Navis are not inexpensive, so I do not want to make a mistake installing the hardware on the mount.

I am hoping to get someone to assist with, or fully install, the hardware for the Argo Navis.

I live in south east Melbourne, not far from Cheltenham.

Happy to pay for the assistance in alcohol, food or cash.

PM me if you are interested.

(@moderators: sorry for the duplicate thread. This is a repost from the WANTED section but I was not getting any views and I need the help so I thought to repost in this section of the forums)

cheers,
DJDD

Hi DJDD,
I have installed my Argo hardware myself, have a look here:

If your new 10" is anything similar I might be able to help. I am in Glen Waverley.
If you could post a image of your Dobson in your thread it would help me to understand what would be required in your case.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi PeterHA,

thanks for the reply.
Your setup looks very neatly done.

I have attached the images of the mount.
The dobson is a BT-252B

if there is the chance you can help I am happy to come to you at your convenience.

cheers,
DJDD

Hi DJDD,

Could you please take a couple of images of the encoder hardware you have, that will help me to understand what you have got and what we might be missing.

How long are the cables you have for the Argo to encoder connection?

Where would you like the Argo to be mounted?

Hi again,

I will take the photos tonight when i get home.
I bought the default package for the telescope so I think they are probably 1.3 metres in length, although will check tonight.

where would i like it mounted? not sure as i had not even gotten that far. :)
i do not think i have a preference, just wherever it is convenient.

cheers.

H DJDD,
If you observe frequently conveniance and usability is very helpfull at night.
To get the most out of your inventment the best is to have the Argo mounted on a stalk like in the images of my scope.
It does not have to be hight adjustable.
So at a minimum we would need to get a aluminium tube or a broom stick and a broom bracket to be converted into a stalk.
If you have got the Argo bracket it could be mounted onto the stalk, if you have not got the bracket some adhesive velcro will work as well.
If we work on your Dobson we should have all we need before so it is a quick installation.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for assisting.

You can find a copy of the azimuth encoder installation instructions,
including diagrams, on our web site here -
http://www.wildcard-innovations.com.au/images/gso_model_b_az.pdf

You can find a copy of the altitude encoder installation instructions,
including diagrams, on our web site here -
http://www.wildcard-innovations.com.au/images/gso_model_b_alt.pdf

The encoder cable is 1.9m on the azimuth axis and 1.3m on the altitude
axis.

The altitude trunnion would have already been modified.

You should find the installation easy but we are always here to assist.

Best Regards

Hi,

well, hoping to get into observing again, not that I ever did a lot, so a stalk sounds good. I do have to move the scope in and out of the house to observe so i would not like to break it.

I cannot recall if i have the bracket, probably not, so velcro will do.

Thanks for the help!

I have posted some images, hopefully clear enough for viewing.

cheers,
DJDD

Hi Gary,

Thanks for adding some info to the thread.

If anyone else reads the thread, my ineptitude is not a reflection on the Argo Navis...

cheers!

Thanks Gary and DJDD,

All good, enough information.
I have sent a private message to DJDD and we will take it from there.

Cheers.
