Power connector specs for SBIG ST

Hi all,

Does anyone know the exact specs of the power connector on newer SBIG ST cameras such as the ST8300c ?

It looks like this:

and is used on cameras like this:

It's a single pin plug with a thread to secure it.

I'm wanting to make my own extension cable but know there are a million different sizes of pin diameters and lengths for these kinds of plugs so want to get the right one.

I'm hoping I can find a threaded plug in Jaycar or such?

Tried the same recently for my ST-8300C -Jaycar didn't stock them.

Why not just cut the cable you have and make an insert for when you want to extend it. Use something like the small polarised Anderson connectors for the 2 new joins, and it becomes simple to use it as is, or with a longer insert.

Thanks, looks good. I can't find a female thread-on in-line socket to match. Any ideas?



In many situations that would be an easy solution, however:
1) I am using a camera loaned to me, don't want to modify the power cord/supply of the original.
2) I want to duct a couple of suitable cables through the Parmount to have them there for easy plugin of SBIG cameras.

FYI: The OEM plug is a Switchcraft S760K with 5.5mm outer
diameter and 2 mm inner diameter

Think you'll have to go online to purchase one in Oz.

2.5 or 2.1mm?

Most of my astro gear is 2.1mm. Only thing with 2.5mm is my 12V computer.

Yes this is my only concern that remains - exactly is it the 2.1 or 2.5, as there's no "2mm" option.

When they are talking about 2.1 or 2.5 is that the inside pin diameter its self? Hard to accurately measure this myself.

2.1mm will fit, but it might be lose, and it certainly won't be the OEM part.

Also dodgy connection can cause power spikes, which I know for a fact (plus a few unhappy customers) as this has fried their electronics.

Not sure what Peter means by OEM part because I doubt that SBIG would manufacture or request a part outside the standard 2.1mm or 2.5mm. Whilst the Switchcraft describes the S760K as a 2.03mm the datasheet indicates 2.1mm.

The Adapter that was supplied by SBIG with my ST-8300M is a Cincon Electronics TR45A12-01A03. If you do a search for this part number it throws up that the plug is a 5.5mm/2.1mm.

Soo...go with the 2.1mm....or buy both sizes and trial fit with the jack on your camera.

Indeed... looks like there is a typo on the Switchcraft web page :shrug:

I'd also defer to the Switchcraft data sheet and 2.1mm as the correct ID....and use the locking collar to ensure a sound connection :thumbsup:

Might buy it from Altronics locally, they have the 2.1mm plugs.

Conveniently the Versa Plate Aux 1 & 2 ports are the same 2.1mm threaded fittings, so I've bought enough to utilise them, by making short 50cm cables which will run from the plate to the camera. I probably won't need the female fitting as a result.
