Hi guys.

I'm looking for the views of those of you who have used either/both the TeleVue 1.25" and 2" Powemates.

I don't currently own either but am looking to find one or both of each here through the classifieds. Before committing to any purchases I'd like to know which would best suit my eventual needs. Currently I own a Tak TOA130 (focal length 1000mm) and intend to add a Tak Mewlon 250 with corrector (focal length approx 2500mm) sometime in the near future.

What are the advantages of the 1.25" -v- 2" Powermates? And which of the various magnifications 2x through to 5x would be the best choices for each telescope.

I'm looking for both visual and AP uses.

I have a 2" 4x Powermate that I use for planetary observing, works well. I am considering using it with my 10" F/10 to get a F/40 for some small galaxies. At the very least to give it a test to see how it fairs.

Thanks both of you.

So I gather having the 2" versions gives me a greater versatility regarding 2" eyepieces and larger image circle?

Most of my viewing will be through Denk II Binos with Tak LE 30's & 12's or TeleVue Plossl 7.4's. I have a 32 TV Plossl also. Assuming the Powermates will work with the binoviewers I'll prolly look to get both in either 2" or 1.25".
What I really want to know is whether to go for the 2" or the 1.25" versions of the Powermates?

What is the advantage/disadvantage of either barrel size? Seems to me that it's best to go for 2" barrel size and use the 1&1/14" adaptor for 1&1/4" eyepieces or camera adaptor. Then also have the versatility to use with 2" eyepieces.

Thanks for all your input everyone. I think I've decided which direction to move in.
