I want to get a Canon DLSR modified for astrophotography (by removing the inbuilt IR filter).

Does anyone know of a company in Australia that performs this modification?

Thanks

There was a camera shop in Sydney discussed here in the last two weeks, that will remove the filter for $150. However, if you follow Gary Honis' excellent pictorial instructions you might be able to do it yourself. I removed the blue cast IR filter from my 450D in a couple of hours. Do some reading to decide what you want, remove for full spectum, or remove and replace with a Baader cut filter to limit the spectrum to 400 - 700nm, replace low pass with clear glass or leave it, etc. Before you do it make sure you examine the photos from modified cameras using the different filters (or none) to see what the spectrum will mean to your results. Some people don't realise that there is a lot of Ha out there and the red can really overwelm other colours. There was an Eta Carinae image from a modified camera posted today in the Beginners Astrophoto forum.

I've used Peter @ Tan14 before he offers a modification service...
