I just watched Woody Allen's latest film,"Magic in the Moonlight", and there's a scene where Colin Firth and Emma Stone take shelter from a thunderstorm in an old observatory. They just walk in and push a button to open the dome. It's the Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur in Nice with a dome designed by Gustave Eiffel. Beautiful 30" refractor dating from 1886. The movie hasn't had great reviews but it's worth seeing just for this.

One nice scope and dome ….one awful movie to be avoided….unless your wife wants to go to the flicks :D I saw it last year sometime ….dreadful :zzz2: but perked up at the dome scene, unbelievable as it was!
I'm a sucker for old refractors in old domes, specially this one as the Paris-Nice Pro bicycle race goes up a climb very close to the dome in early March every year.

Beautiful observatory and scope, unfortunately for me it was closed when I was there in 2007. I think the guides were also at the Monaco Grand Prix.
