spectrum of gamma crux.

Hi,
I have a student who is trying to identify spectral lines he took of gamma crux using a staranalyser 100 with both DMK 21 and 60Da and using the rspec program but we are having difficulty identifying which dips correspond to the spectral lines of hydrogen and helium that we determined using a spectrograph. Would someone have an example of this spectrum showing which dips relate to which spectral line. Thanks.

gamma crux is a M3.5III red giant star. The TiO bands are more prominent than the usual Balmer series of hydrogen. Starting with an A type star (Sirius) will allow you to determine the dispersion which you can then use on subsequent spectra.
IMHO the easiest and best starting point for ANY comparisons is Richard Walker's Spectral Atlas. He presents fully annotated spectra of all the stellar classes - ideal for your needs (and future needs)
