Binary star to spill celestial secrets - Close approach and violent interaction of stars in η Carinae system will provide rare insight into stellar enigma: http://www.nature.com/news/binary-star-to-spill-celestial-secrets-1.15672

Might be some interesting times ahead, and a possible major brightening, of one of our favourite southern objects!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting Barry.

Another major brightening would create a lot of interest.

Michael.

I already noticed it in Feb 2012. I started a thread (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=86691) on it.
According to the article it brightened again last April and June again. I've last seen it from South Africa last March and will go to SA next Feb. I am curious whether it has brightened by then.

Possible we all can notice the 1841 event again when it got as bright as Canopus. That wll mean a third pointer on the other side of Crux.
