Does anybody know a safe and easy way to spot clean a primary mirror using isopropyl ,as I have a couple of smudges that are in the light path and do not want to clean the whole mirror as it is relatively clean any advice appreciated.
Not sure what caused the smudges but think it may be insect collision.
Thanks Manny.

Hi Manny,

On the rare occasions when I feel I simply have to get some piece of crap off my mirror I used lots of propanol to "loosen" it and then dab with a clean tissue. Do this lots of times and you should be OK. Most insecty animal marks have lots of oily goo so they should yield to the propanol.

Don't worry if you have to use a bit of pressure, just don't rub vigorously!.

Usually works. By The Way, most dirt doesn't detract much from your image so don't sweat too much about having a non-virginal optic - it'll still work.

Richard.

spot cleaning is fine -just make sure what you wipe with is damp -dry scratches
i usually like to blow dry with a hair dryer
