Anyone with a Mac know how to write to a USB disk drive that is formatted for NTFS? I can read the drive but not write to it. Its not a hardware problem, everything is working fine. I think it has to do with permissions. I have fiddled with them on the Microsoft machine but can't change them on the Mac laptop.

Reason for doing it: - I want one drive that backs up all my computers so I can just have it in my "get out quick bag" in case of fires.

Oh yes, I found the mac will write to a FAT32 thumb drive so that would be a solution but I can't format a 1 terabyte drive into one large partition using that format system.

Anyone know of a utility for the Mac that will write to NTFS?

NTFS write support is not included with OS X at this stage, not sure whether it ever will be. I'm using the Paragon NTFS driver for this. There are others that work, too.

For large filesystems and files you can also use exFAT. OS X supports that out of the box, and modern versions of Windows do, too.

Cheers
Steffen.
