where can i get an accurate sunspot numbering identification map?

are 3 that use. I used to use the NOAA page (which is the last one) but occasionally they have a holiday and stop posting, so I had to fine the others.
Search for "Active solar region maps", I'm sure you'll find plenty of others as well. They also help to orient your images:thumbsup:.

Can anyone describe how the numbering system works?
Perhaps it's a topographical pointer...?

When "they" decide an Active Region/feature warrant's recognition a sequential number is allocated......

Who are 'they'? I have often seen large AR rounding the limb with no allocated number from such sites - Can I name them?

but the NOAA designation would probably take precedence.
